but also for the wine, reaching temperatures which dropped to -12ºc
(10ºf), with low temperatures even at the beginning of spring and
quite cold months in february and march. Rains appeared in high
quantities by the end of winter and stopped in june, when warm temperatures were registered, contributing to have ideal conditions for a proper fruition and fruit set, foretelling a plentiful harvest.
After a winter in which the vines rested in moderate conditions and with lower rainfall than usual, spring was responsible for demonstrating the extreme conditions that characterise Ribera del Duero, since, although rainfall was abundant during this period, the low temperatures delayed the budding of the vines more than usual. The summer was characterised by high temperatures during most of July, as well as throughout August and most of September. This, together with the lack of rain, and especially at the end of the summer, caused a certain water stress, which led to a marked delay in the moment of ripening, especially in the youngest plants and in those located in drier soils. 100% Tempranillo. Finca La Mira 2016
This vintage leaves us with wines with a lot of volume and good capacity to face the weather and which will give us a lot of joy, with roundness and spectacular tannin.
Despite the usual differences in ripening that occurred at the beginning of September due to the location of each vineyard, the good weather conditions allowed the harvest to be harvested at optimum ripeness. On this occasion, the harvest was slightly earlier than usual, but the analytical and organoleptic characteristics and the balance of the berries were ideal. The wines of this vintage have an impressive colour intensity, thanks to the exceptional light conditions of the ripening process, with very violet hues and a narrow rim. In the olfactory phase they present important fruity tones, especially in the black fruit range, as well as some mineral and spicy tones. On the palate, the wines are defined by a very good balance and a high tannic potential, characterised by sweet tannins that denote the good phenolic maturation of the berries. 100% Tempranillo.
